Introduction
With a trip to Yorkshire this afternoon, I just had time to enjoy a really local walk this morning.
The rain stopped as I set out, though the sun never quite appeared.
The drive to the walk is just 5 minutes from Cheadle Hulme.
It took me 2 hours to complete the 5.7 mile walk.
The walk is excellent for dog walking, mainly on good paths and tracks.
I walked in an anticlockwise direction.
The walk is on OS Explorer Map 268.
I parked at the pull-in at the bottom of Happy Valley, on Bridge Lane, postcode SK7 2NN, What 3 Words ///caked.search.holly

Happy Valley To A555
I set off along the path which follows Lady Brook.

It’s a very pretty path through the mature trees.

Just before reaching the footbridge, I turned right on another well made track and then pass along the front of Bramhall High School.
After passing through a housing estate (including passing the house we almost bought in Westby Close in 1980!) the route enters open countryside. Here, there are grand houses and horses that evoke a different lifestyle.

The track then runs alongside the manicured fairways of Bramhall Golf Club before reaching Woodford Road and the A555.

Poynton Pool
As I walk down Lower Park Road (actually it’s a track, not a road), it is evident that the expanding boundary of Poynton will inevitably swallow up these last remaining fields in the not too distant future.

After crossing Poynton Brook at Phillips Bridge, I skirt a housing estate. The road is lined by more splendid autumnal trees.

Crossing the B5092, I arrive at the pretty Poynton Pool.

I am greeted by a great crested grebe.

It really is a splendidly photogenic place, teeming with birdlife!

Happy Valley
Leaving the poolside, I re-cross the road, and then Poynton Brook.

The doggy day care centre was having a busy outdoor play session.

I passed under the A555, and then Millhill Bridge over Lady Brook.

The path follows a field edge with more very old trees on the field boundary.

The path then joins the bank of the brook. The stepping stones are just about navigable, but I didn’t cross!

It is a very pretty walk down here!

Finally, I emerged back into suburbia, and a short stroll down Bridge Lane to the car.
The suburbs continue to encroach on the green spaces round here, but this walk shows that there is still plenty to enjoy if you have a couple of hours to spare!
And Finally….
We saw The Cat Empire at The Albert Hall this week. A very upbeat evening!
This is Oh Eh from their new Bird In Paradise album.

Thanks Graham.
This is a walk I will definitely try very soon.
Iain.
Great, should suit you and the dog!
