{"id":1002539,"date":"2020-09-08T21:26:48","date_gmt":"2020-09-08T20:26:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/box5234.temp.domains\/~halfdayw\/\/?p=1002539"},"modified":"2022-11-04T17:54:31","modified_gmt":"2022-11-04T17:54:31","slug":"a-stroll-from-castleton-to-hollins-cross","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.half-daywalker.com\/?p=1002539","title":{"rendered":"A Stroll From Castleton to Hollins Cross"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Travel time 40 minutes each way<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Walk time 2 hours<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Weather &#8211; warm and sunny<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ordnance Survey Explorer Map OL1<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Parking &#8211; Visitor Centre Car Park (\u00a34 for 4 hours, cash only despite these COVID times) <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For my first walk to be included in the blog I was joined by Caroline, and our friends Joe and Denise. We had lunch first at the Three Roofs Cafe opposite the car park entrance. You arrive at an excellent signpost!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.half-daywalker.com\/\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/IMG_20200908_141926A.jpg?resize=491%2C368&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1002542\" width=\"491\" height=\"368\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.half-daywalker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/IMG_20200908_141926A.jpg?w=1024&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.half-daywalker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/IMG_20200908_141926A.jpg?resize=300%2C225&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.half-daywalker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/IMG_20200908_141926A.jpg?resize=768%2C576&amp;ssl=1 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 491px) 100vw, 491px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Great views from here up to Mam Tor<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.half-daywalker.com\/\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/IMG_20200908_142056A.jpg?resize=485%2C362&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1002543\" width=\"485\" height=\"362\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.half-daywalker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/IMG_20200908_142056A.jpg?resize=300%2C225&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.half-daywalker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/IMG_20200908_142056A.jpg?zoom=2&amp;resize=485%2C362&amp;ssl=1 970w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 485px) 100vw, 485px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We took the steep footpath up to Hollins Cross from where the views of Edale Valley appear and paths meet from every direction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-video\"><video height=\"1080\" style=\"aspect-ratio: 1920 \/ 1080;\" width=\"1920\" controls src=\"https:\/\/www.half-daywalker.com\/\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/VID_20200908_145503.mp4\"><\/video><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the teenage girls seen at the end of the video suddenly produced some loud dance music from a phone, and one of the lads quipped amusingly &#8220;you can take the girl out of the city, but&#8230;&#8230;.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We returned through the gate and right down the hill, into a wood. as the slope flattens a sharp left takes you past &#8220;Woodseats&#8221; and cross the farm track to take a path through the fields all the way back to Castleton.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Super lunch, super walk, super company!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And, what about the music.
